A couple weeks ago Robert Bechtle was the lead guest on Episode No. 118 of The Modern Art Notes Podcast. As usual, not all of host Tyler Green’s conversation with Bechtle made the final show.
Today on Modern Art Notes, Green featured something that we had to cut: Bechtle’s thoughts on whether this painting, Nancy Sitting (1964) he was influenced by two semi-murals by little-known California-based painter Gottardo Piazzoni. Those two works, The Land (1931-32) and The Sea (1931-32) are shown here and are on permanent view at the de Young Museum in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

artists on tumblr always inspire me, and some of their work makes me realise there is a lot more to the world than what’s on your doorstep.
I really like this piece, it has an innocence to it..
